    Die Wurzeln der Geschichte des Grand Tourer/Gran Turismo gehen zurück auf das italienische Rennen Mille Miglia (1000-Meilen) der 20er Jahre.

    Mit den Worten von Enzo Ferrari: „Die Mille Miglia hat unsere Autos und die italienische Autoindustrie geschaffen.     Die GTs der 50er und 60er Jahre, die als „Luxusautos für Gentlemen“ bezeichnet wurden, waren traditionell zweitürige Coupés mit zwei Sitzen oder einer 2+2-Sitzanordnung. Sie hatten einen Frontmotor und einen Hinterradantrieb, um mehr Platz im Innenraum und beim Laden zu schaffen. Grand Tourer sind meist die Coupé-Variante von Luxuslimousinen oder -sedans. Viele ikonische Automodelle wie der Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, der Jaguar E-Type und der Aston Martin DB5 gelten als klassische Beispiele für Grand Tourer-Autos.

    Inspiration

    A Study of Elegance

    The passionate craftsmanship behind each car was evident in every detail. These sleek machines were defined by their curved, flowing outlines and compact frames, exuding a new sense of sophistication. 

    Their silhouette was a perfect blend of function and form which formed a coupe-like body, with the objective to make the vehicle as streamlined as possible while retaining its sheer beauty. 

    GTs were also known for their lightweight spoke wheels, which complemented its curved aesthetic and focus to high speed driving. At the front they featured big grills to provide the high displacement engines with sufficient cooling to prevent overheating on long stints. 

    The elegant charm of the vintage GTs was lifted by the predominant use of robust steel (with some fibre glass and aluminium exceptions) with interiors swathed in premium materials such as leather, wood, and textiles.

    The core of TOURER

    When REC set out to create the TOURER collection, REC made no compromises on materials. Encased in 316L stainless steel, with an exhibition caseback inspired by the spoke wheels exposing the balance wheel and enclosed within a domed sapphire crystal, the TOURER collection epitomises timeless quality.

    In styling, REC wanted to encapsulate the GT’s streamlined silhouettes into the case design, the lugs and case in between takes inspiration from these organic shapes. 

    The evocative dial motif composed of stamp squares and metallic dots is a reference to the metallic, hand-made detailing found across the grills of the GT – a simple, yet sophisticated backdrop to the raised indices. Lastly, a selection of classic GT colours has been applied to the dial to seal the exterior inspiration. 

    The leather-lined interiors radiate the sense of class associated with GTs, REC therefore went with an italian leather strap with quick-release system, for easy replacement.

    Made with the gentleman in mind, so whether you are behind the wheel or not, you may wear the TOURER timepieces for a ride in understated class, whatever the outfit.
